Makarchik and his mother Inna hoped to celebrate his second birthday at home, but fate had other plans. His mother and the doctors did everything possible to try and let the little boy enjoy his birthday at home. It seemed as though Makarchik had finished his treatments…. Everyone was convinced that the disease had been close to remission and his days in the hospital would soon come to an end.
Before his birthday Makar underwent some tests to ensure that the disease had been defeated. Unfortunately, the tests showed the presence of metastases in the lungs. Maybe due to the gap in time between the most recent treatment and the test, the disease had time to come back.
Right now Makar’s mom is ready to take the imaging discs to Kyiv, get a second opinion and better understand what is wrong with her son.
Another unfortunate event happened right before his birthday when Makar was out for a walk – someone stole his tablet from the room. The little boy cried and cried – he walked back and forth in his room looking for the tablet. Like many children today, especially in a hospital, this was his only form of entertainment.
We as volunteers were also saddened and upset by this. We remembered that there was an amazing young woman that donated a tablet to our fund. This “fairy princess” asked us to donate the tablet to the sick boy. And that is the story of how our tablet found its new owner – Makar’s beloved “book." Words cannot describe how happy he was when opening the gift – he kissed it and his mother was in amazement that he would receive such a generous gift for his birthday.
But the most important birthday wish has yet to be delivered – health. Makar’s health is what truly matters to him and his family. You can help make these dreams become a reality with a donation towards his treatments! Makar, his family and the fund sincerely thank you for your support.
