=====================================

Our foundation routine involves many conversations with parents who ask us to help them with fund raising for their children. The woman who has recently appealed to us was feeling rather uneasy about asking us for help.

Her little daughter Olga was diagnosed with two-sided sensorineural hearing loss (4th stage). This problem, however, was not defined right away. When Olga was one year old her mom noticed her strange behavior: the girl didn’t react to sounds and didn’t respond when she was called. The girl’s mother took her little daughter to consult the doctor, who somehow didn’t recognize anything wrong. He promised that Olga’s queer behavior would change with time. But even though the time was going by, the situation stayed the same.

When Olga turned three years old her mom took her for a hearing checkup in Zaporizhzhia. After the diagnosis was confirmed she understood how much precious time she lost. The only ray of hope left for her little daughter to hear at least some sounds are powerful up-to-date hearing aids. But this hope seems nothing but a mirage when the single mom hears the price of these necessary devices – 27,000 hryvnyas (3,333 US dollars). The month family income of the Smolas Family that consists of three members (Olga has older eleven-year-old sister) is just a bit more than 900 hryvnyas (that’s around 111 US dollars), so it seems totally impossible for Olga’s mom Victoria to collect such a huge sum of money by herself.

Although Victoria knew me for just half an hour I could see inextinguishable hope in her eyes! She has no one else to count on for. Next year Olga will attend the older group of the kindergarten. If the girl doesn’t have suitable hearing aids by that time it is very unlikely she will be able to attend normal kindergarten or school. We can only imagine how anxious Victoria is at the thought that her little daughter may never enjoy communicating with her family members and peers.

Help little Olga and give her a chance to break this world of silence she has to live in! Even your smallest donations will make a big change in Olga’s life!

The family lives in the city of Melitopol (the Zaporizhzhia region).
