According to him, as an option the President proposes to expand the network of social hostels
KYIV, August 31, 2012 (UBO) – Approximately 70% of orphans and children deprived of parental care, who transit to adulthood, remain homeless because they do not have their own homes, Yuriy Pavlenko, presidential commissioner for children's rights said.
"Of 12,000 orphans who annually come of age, only 30% have tent and they have homes to live. Others - in most cases have no such opportunity and accommodate as they can," Pavlenko said. According to him, as an option the President proposes to expand the network of social hostels.
"Today, they operate only in 18 regions of Ukraine and cover only 13% of the needs of children who leave boarding school facilities," the Commissioner for Children's Rights said.
Pavlenko said that in accordance with the Constitution and applicable laws, local authorities are fully obliged to provide these children with housing.
