We often torture ourselves with such questions “Why do little children have to suffer?” “Why do healthy and happy families often have to face some terrible ordeals?” “Why does nature “give” a little innocent child so many serious health problems?”….There are no answers found, however…
Little Maria was a dearly wanted child. She was, alas, prematurely born between 31 and 32 weeks. Maria’s arrival in this world meant happiness and sorrows for her mom. There is still a chance for Maria to see the world around after all the necessary surgeries. Elena is a single mother of two little children (little Maria has a five-year old brother Vanya). Elena has no one she could ask for help, share her despair with. She tried to cope with everything alone for a long time. Now, though she has no strength to fight with her financial difficulties alone, so she has asked us to help her.
Half a year ago as soon as Maria turned one year old Elena noticed some problems. Medical checkup confirmed Elena’s fears – her little sweet princess had serious vision problems. After a number of medical consultations Maria was taken to the OKHMATDET clinic.
On May 29th 2013 Maria had the first surgery on her right eye at the children’s OKHMATDET clinic in Kyiv. The surgery, that was partially sponsored by our foundation, cost 4,533 hryvnyas (approximately 576 US dollars). The next surgery is going to take place on July 3rd 2013. The surgery cannot be postponed because of exfoliating retina of Maria’s left eye. This process should be eliminated as soon as possible. The consequences can be much worse than just eyesight worsening. There is almost no time left but Elena has no money for the coming surgery.
Little Maria does not understand yet that she has to fight for her normal life now. We want to believe that thanks to many kind-hearted people like you little Maria will be able to overcome her first serious life challenges and will see this world!
