Once someone asked me to find out the name of one of the orphans in our pictures. That picture was taken at an orphanage I often visit. Although I visit the orphanage once a month I happened to have no information about this child. The reason is simple as it is – Sergey usually spends all his time alone either in his room or in the playroom - just sitting for hours alone on the sofa.
There are two playrooms in the orphanage – one for “promising” children and another one for such a lonely child as Sergey. This in no way means that Sergey is aggressive. He is simply not interested in communication with other children and adults. He doesn’t need any toys.
Sergey is one of a few orphans in the orphanage whose mother did not just abandon him but died. This lonely boy does not speak and I am not quite sure if he is aware of what goes around him. However, when I see his wise look that does not match his age I have an impression that he understands many things intuitively.
Even a lone wolf or a complete recluse does need someone by his/her side. Let alone when it is a lonely little orphan. Especially if this child doesn’t leave his room for ages and spends all his time by watching at the same spot. He perhaps reflects upon his past if he remembers it. He may feel it…
Someone does not become a loner out of the blue. Loneliness is usually the result of pain, sorrows, indifference and constant sufferings. Gradually it is hardly possible to set free this butterfly out of its cocoon. This lonely boy has no future unless he finds his loving Mom. If he has no one who will love him Sergey may isolate himself completely from this world and feel nothing but cold indifference towards everyone. This boy with a wise look on his young shoulders may just lose his hope… This lonely boy has no future unless he finds his loving Mom.

Ways you can help include: planning and participating in excursions and trips for children; visiting a child in an orphanage; or helping purchase developmental toys, books, construction sets, and sports equipment.
