Today the whole Akhchi family is going through a difficult time...
Last year their younger daughter Snezhana suddenly fell ill. In the evening of December 4th, she abruptly had fever, and the parents called an ambulance at night. Snezhana had convulsions and the ambulance took her to the Primorskiy district hospital where doctors did their best trying to get her out of that terrible condition all night. Unfortunately, Snezhana fell into a coma. The hospital doctors made a provisional diagnosis - meningitis. In the morning a resuscitation vehicle of the Zaporozhzhye Infectious Diseases Hospital came and took the unconscious girl to Zaporozhzhye. She had been in a coma for three days, and the doctors set an accurate diagnosis - purulent meningitis.
When Snezhana regained consciousness, the doctor told her terrible news, which radically changed life of the entire family - Snezhana lost her hearing. She spent a week in the intensive care unit, where doctors tried to "kill" this terrible infection in the child’s body, but the hearing did not come back.
Then she was transferred to the infectious ward, where she had treatment for another two weeks. Snezhana could not hold her head, sit, or walk, every touch was painful. Her parents started life afresh, from square one again... They had to teach their daughter to eat, drink water, as her body was very weak and poorly took food.
Consultations of various doctors gave no results. Hearing is gone for good.
After being in the infectious diseases hospital, Snezhana was transferred to Children's Hospital. Unfortunately, her hearing didn't return and on January 5, 2015 she was discharged from the hospital.
The whole family, all the relatives and friends, school mates and staff, villagers worried about Snezhana. Always being cheerful, friendly and full of joy, this little girl happened to be taken out her everyday life. The one, who likes to sing and dance, can no longer hear the music. The most frightening questions for the parents and all the family members were, "Will I be able to hear again? Why me? Why was it I that had to be sick? Mummy, I want to hear your voice and dad’s again. It seems to me that this is a bad dream, I will wake up and be able to hear everybody again".
Now Snezhana smiles, tries to run, though she is not supposed to. She dreams are to go to school again and play with classmates as she used to. But there is a huge problem - she needs strong (powerful) hearing aids. If they are not put in Snezhana’s both ears, her speech degradation can begin, and this should not happen in any case!
Her family, relatives, other people could raise money only to purchase one hearing aid. All family’s resources came to the end, there is no money for the second unit. It costs 21,935 UAH (980 US dollars). Help Snezhana return happy childhood and restore her full life!
