The July Report on the Works Done in Orphanages for Children and Adults with Special Needs

August 11, 2015, 20:00 3383 Author: Maria Semashkina, translated by Oxana Burns deti.zp.ua Going to the pond and a trip to Vasilevka became major events of the past month

Last month we bought fifteen cans of protein nutrition amounting 3,135 UAH (133 US dollars) for the orphanage in the village of Veliky Lug. We gave 1,980 UAH (84 US dollars) to the Kirovo orphanage as payment for the trips of children to the camp. Once again we donated 1,500 UAH (63 US dollars) to Kalinovka to pay for fuel and we keep paying fees to the doctor and rehabilitation specialist at the orphanage.

In July, a sponsor from Dubai sent 2.5 kg of beads to Kalinovka. We spent 2,000 UAH (85 US dollars) on art supplies and toys for the Kalinovka orphanage.

Due to the upcoming opening of two family-type orphanages in Kalinovka, (which, according to the local authorities is supposed to happen in September), last month we invited specialists to install the solid fuel boilers. Unfortunately, the construction of boiler rooms and installation of the boilers will not take place until September.

It should be mentioned that though the opening of two family-type orphanages in Kalinovka is not far off, we are still collecting money with great difficulty for a car for these families. So far we've gathered a little more than 20,000 hryvnias, and need at least 10 times more. We would be grateful if you could help as each UAH (850 US dollars) matters as each item is important in the vehicle!

In July, the children together with a tutor, a doctor and rehabilitation specialist were taken to swim in the pond (going past sunflower fields) and at the end of the month there was an excursion for children and a few adults from Kalinovka to the village of Vasilevka. Thanks to caring people the children visited the castle and the Pylyshenko zoo in which they especially liked bears and Newfoundland dogs.

Report on the educators' work in Kalinovka

Lilya and Artem made a bear, a bunny and a fish using papier-mache. Yura made his first hand-made article of beads by himself - the heart in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Sasha Z. wove bracelets of ribbons, also in the national colors of Ukraine. Another hand-made article - the owl - was made by the children of plastic bottles and polyurethane foam.

Sofia took the children to the pond and where they not only swam, but also sailed toy boats. Also this tutor involved children in making poppies using corrugated paper last month. Since August Sofia will work with adults, and together they will keep weaving beads, shaping using plasticine (play dough), drawing and making soap.
