When Dasha (Darya) walked into the room there were four strangers and even a video camera. In a situation like this even many adults would feel uncomfortable and be nervous.
But Dasha was very polite and said “hello” to everyone and even moved to the center of the room. When we told Dasha that we came to play with her she invited everyone into the ball pit! Dasha has a contagious openness about her.
Dasha has special needs and specifically has difficulty pronouncing certain sounds, formulating sentences and memorizing poems. But Dasha is stronger than her peers and older children in other areas.
Dasha is very diligent with her studies and her teachers even have to tell her to take a break from studying and play with the other children. Dasha loves to solve puzzles and play with building blocks.
Just like all children Dasha has lots of energy. She loves to run, jump and enjoys gym class.
There is one quality that separates Dasha from the other children – she enjoys helping her teachers and other children. Dasha likes to take charge and doesn’t wait for someone else to set the dinner table. She is like a big sister to the smaller children – she helps them get dressed, takes their hand when needed and stands up for them.
Even when all the other children are tired of playing with the toys Dasha enjoys cleaning up the room.
The best way we can characterize Dasha is a very mature little girl.
She is a very serious girl for being only six years old – full of purpose and hard working. Anyone that befriends Dasha will quickly understand that she is a supportive and loyal friend. Maybe when she grows up she will be a volunteer and help others. But right now what Dasha really wants is a loving family.

Ways you can help include planning and participating in excursions and trips for children; visiting a child in an orphanage; or helping purchase developmental toys, books, construction sets, and sports equipment.
