In May, protein nutrition for almost UAH 5,000 (220 US dollars) was purchased for Kalinovka, where such nutrition is required for children with anemia and adults with dystrophy. By the way, now the price for one pack of such nutrition is more than UAH 200 (9 US dollars), while we were able to purchase 30 packs for Kalinovka for the old good price. Besides, stationery and materials for art works were purchased for Kalinovka in total amount of UAH 1,500 (66 US dollars). In addition to the materials purchased by our foundation, we also took to Kalinovka the stationery and the toys that we received from Emmy (England). In May the foundation also allocated the required resources to repair the TV set in one of the Happy Homes in Kalinovka, and UAH 2,600 (115 US dollars) were spent to purchase a massage table for Kirovsky orphanage.
Last month we also allocated UAH 2,700 (120 US dollars) to cover petrol for Kalinovka, including UAH 1,000 (44 US dollars) to take an orphanage soccer team to take part in the competition held in Zaporozhzhye. We also continue paying for the work of a doctor and a rehabilitation specialist, who not only makes massage, but also trains some children, so Artem from the Happy Home is now better physically fit than many of our office staff workers.
We continue working on the formalities to register Happy Homes as family-type children’s homes, and we are still looking for the second family eager to run a family-type home for children with special needs. We expect to open both family-type children’s homes by fall and we hope that we will be able to replace the heating system before the beginning of the heating season. Besides, we still hope that with your support we will be able to collect enough money and before opening of the homes to purchase a motor vehicle for families as without such vehicle it will not be possible for them to take children anywhere and it will be rather problematic to buy food products on a regular basis.
On 15-17 May, psychologists from Lviv and Odessa held the second training in Kirovsky orphanage on dealing with problematic behavior of children and adults with special needs. The training was attended by 10 staff members from each of Kirovsky and Zaporozhzhye orphanages, including educators, nurses and rehabilitation specialists. In the process of training, its participants shared their experience and developed new scenarios to facilitate their work and improve the quality of life for orphanage residents.
ArtKalinovka website is now back to work. Through this website we sell handcrafted items made in Kalinovka and maybe will also start selling the soap made by our adult residents. Make purchases for yourself and tell about this project in social media. In response, you will get the gratitude of our team and our special craftsmen.
In May, sessions of public councils were held in Kirovsky and Kalinovka orphanages with participation of the foundation. During the session, further plans were discussed, including the offer of the foundation to hold trainings for staff members with participation of our psychologist. Orphanage staff members really need support, not less than those whom they care about.
On the last Saturday of May, children and adults from Kalinovka had an opportunity to visit the Safari Zoo in Berdyansk. We would like to say a big thank you for this trip to the HelperUA Humanitarian Foundation and to the Mercy Mission!
The Report of Educators’ Work in Kalinovka
The educator working with grown-ups together with adult Kalinovka residents make soap and items for the playground located next to the children’s buildings with her group members. For these purposes, they use old plastic bottles, which can be transferred into cute animals.
Lilya K. with boys made heart-shaped yellow and blue trinkets. The group also used plastic bottles to make a decorative mushroom and a bush of dandelions. The children also finished the Frog picture made of salt dough.
Sofia Sh. took children to the pond. This educator often plays soccer and volleyball with the little ones in summer. Also, Sofia organized a picnic with boys next to their building. Besides, children from this group were drawing on the pavement using crayons. In summer Sofia tries to hold her classes outside, and she made May lilies of crepe paper with Sasha and Artem at one of such “street classes”.
Olga M. had a dough modeling class with Larisa K. The educator also painted with Katya A. and taught Zhenya Zh. to paint and make a whole picture out of four parts. Olga also made a sand pyramid with Vera, Katya T. and Miroslava.
