The June Report on the Works Done in Orphanages for Children and Adults with Special Needs

July 9, 2015, 14:40 3115 Author: Maria Semashkina, translated by Anna Oliynyk deti.zp.ua Training for medical staff and self-made playground were the highlights of June

Last month, 15 Resource Optimum nutrition packs were purchased for the orphanage in Velykyi Luh for UAH 3,000 (126 US dollars) and 30 packs for over UAH 6,000 (252 US dollars) – for Kirovsky orphanage. Besides, 150 feeding tubes costing UAH 1,000 (42 US dollars) were procured for the Kirovsky orphanage. UAH 1,000 (42 US dollars) were allocated to procure gasoline for transporting patients from Kalinovka to hospitals. Also, the doctor and the rehabilitation specialist whose fees we cover continue their work. By the way, our doctor has already lasted for a year in those difficult working conditions and we truly hope that the Chernihivka district hospital will stop doing their best to prevent him from continuing his work for a second year…

Last month, we also spent UAH 4,000 (168 US dollars) to purchase creative art and construction materials to Kalinovka for educators to make a street playground together with children.

In June we received a package with toys from our regular sponsor Maya, and these toys found their home in the Kirovsky orphanage and in Kalinovka. Miroslava from Volyn oblast also sent us another big package of art materials.

The psychologist of our Foundation, Daria, held training on how to behave in conflict situations for Kalinovka medical staff on 18 June. This training showed that orphanage staff need regular contact with a psychologist to achieve at least slightest changes in the attitude of staff to themselves and to the people they work with, i.e. their colleagues, patients, children under their care, etc.

The Artkalinovka website continues its work, and if you decide to buy something, Kalinovka residents will be more than happy that you appreciate their efforts and abilities. Every day, they create new masterpieces with the help of their educators. Thus, last month the educator Sofia Sh. made play dough houses and mushrooms. Children made flowers using plastic bottles with Lilya, who also makes appliances for the playground using expanding foam, and then children cover those things with alabaster and paint. Olya made sandcastles with children.
