We called this article “Special Children” since it’s about the Boarding School of Zaporizhia (for mentally retarded boys). These children are different from their peers. The general development of these special children has been impaired, so they are not able to manage what others can do easily. It’s their peculiarity. That’s why these boys, like no others, need your help. Their future depends on providing them with prompt support and normal conditions for adaptation and socialization into society.

Even though, the boarding school staff can help these special children with social adaptation and rehabilitation, mentally handicapped adults still face employment problems (as teachers provide the boys with just a “general education”). And it’s clear that with only a basic level of education, the young pupils of the Boarding School cannot be registered with the Job Center, let alone get a job. Employment difficulties are also faced by young men of the third working disability group.

This pupil enjoys assembling huge jigsaw puzzles and then gluing them onto cardboard and hanging them all around the department.

It hurts to realize that these boys probably won’t be able to fulfill themselves and find their place under the sun. But we still hope that this article will touch many hearts. The children of the Boarding School of Zaporizhia don’t need much. The most important thing for these children is to feel that we need them. We’re sure that our loving care can help these boys reveal new talents and new personality traits.
