In Donetsk President Victor Yushchenko held a gathering dedicated to problems of orphaned, disabled, homeless children and large families.

The participants were National Security Council secretary Raisa Bohatyryova, Vice-Prime Minister Ivan Vasyunyk, Minister for Education Ivan Vakarchuk, Internal Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, Minister for Family Yuriy Pavlenko, other officials.

Addressing those present Victor Yushchenko told about the situation in Ukraine with child protection outlining main achievements and pointing to certain problems and assignments.

He also urged the Government and local authorities to work out a complex and effective system of children protection. According to him the problematic areas here are promotion of children adoption, increase of quality of care for orphaned children in orphanages, rendering support to large families, fighting juvenile crime and violence against children, finding shelter for homeless children and opening shelters for them, etc.
