The Research of the Public Opinion Concerning the Foster Families in Ukraine

The results showed that the 19% of the Ukrainian families are ready to adopt a child upon condition that the government will provide the social psychological and financial support.

These are the results of the all Ukrainian research of the public opinion “Ukrainian Foster Family”. On the 6th of June the Minister of Ukraine for Family Affairs, Youth and Sports Yuri Pavlenko announced the results during the session named “The Scientific Research in the Problems of the Development of the Family Establishment to the Orphan and Homeless Children”.

The Minister informed that 8% of the Ukrainians are ready to create the foster family and 6% of the population is ready to create the family-style orphanage. At this point now, according to the words of Yuri Pavlenko, there are now in Ukraine 50 more family-style orphanages, and 100 more foster families.

The Family and Youth Problems State University in Family Youth and Sports Affairs of the Ministry of Ukraine dealt with the presented research. The main aim of it was to determine the most effective ways of the development of family forms of homeless and orphan children raising.

Yuri Pavlenko pointed out, that there is the necessity to pass the law concerning the direct tutelage and tutorship, as those standards acts existing today are no more relevant and require the renovation.

The seminar resulted the acceptance of the decision concerning the scientific confirmation of the reform of tutorship and tutelage and its guidance providing. “I am convinced that the Ukrainians can become the active foster parents, as the love to children is the tradition and the feature of our nation.”

“We only need to understand the things that are needed to activate the people in this sphere. I am sure that our scientific work will help us to develop the active process of adopting the children in Ukraine” – that’s what the Minister is inclined to think.
