Ruslan passed away October 17th due to his bowel obstruction...

I was sitting with nannies on the couch when suddenly a child climbed up and sat on my knees. And only some time later I understood that the boy was blind. How could he have felt that I was a stranger, and probably, a good person? Nannies kept telling him to get off and leave me alone, but he wouldn’t. He just sat there silently on my knees.

It’s always like this when someone’s near him: Ruslan reaches out to touch an adult or tries to climb on his or her knees. The boy can pronounce only a few words, but he always laughs merrily when you talk to him or just call his name.

It’s always like this when someone’s near him: Ruslan reaches out to touch an adult or tries to climb on his or her knees. The boy can pronounce only a few words, but he always laughs merrily when you talk to him or just call his name.

I took him alone to the playroom and gave him different toys and watched his reaction. Ruslan was thrilled by the toys that produced sounds of any kind, and by the soft toys filled with sand. He liked those toys that he could palpate or listen to, as long as the ability to see the colourful world had never been given to him.

Ruslan is a tender and obedient child, always smiling and willing to laugh. He needs people around him to see the reality with their hearts, as he does. He needs mom and dad to give him care and love, play with him and talk to him, show him this world through sounds and touches. He needs to see this world through a kind and caring human soul. It’s just like the Little Prince said: “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye!”

If you are interested in adopting Ruslan, please read the memo to the potential adoptive parents, guardians, and foster parents; you can also contact Children’s Affairs' service of the Zaporozhia State Administration by telephone (061) 239-01-56. Request the Profile Number of Ruslan accordingly to the orphan list # 0055223.

Other children who dream of finding a family

If for some reason you are currently not able to adopt (for example, you are a student and do not have a family of your own yet) you are still able to help children at a boarding school (an orphanage with your financial support. Ways you can help include: planning and participating in excursions and trips for children; visiting a child in an orphanage; or helping purchase developmental toys, books, construction sets, and sports equipment.
