The Breath of Life

November 28, 2013, 11:00 2314 Author: Roman Kirchenko, translated by Anna Oliynyk www.deti.zp.ua Repair of the ventilator and procurement of the new monitors for the intensive care unit for newborns of the Regional Children’s Hospital

Modern medical equipment for the intensive care units is often able to perform multiple functions and at the same time it is costly. Providing all hospitals with modern apparatus is a vital task. Supporting operation of those apparatus where they are already available is also very important. The fact is that technologically complex equipment requires qualified maintenance.

Not so long ago the air module of Servo-I ventilator in the intensive care unit for newborns at Zaporozhye Regional Children’s Hospital failed. What does it mean? The weakest children, who are in need of special attention, lost the ability to breathe using this apparatus. For many of them it was not just desirable, but life-saving.

Replacement of this module costs more than UAH 35 (4,248 US dollars). This amount takes into account all possible discounts. Fortunately, the help of people who care allowed us procuring this module and arranging its replacement. We would like to thank all those who made this repair happen. We also say thank you to the Head of Department, Ivan Anikin, for the above-level care for the little patients of his Department.

Besides, new patients’ monitors were provided to the Department. They will ensure control over the living functions of children.

Now it will be much easier for doctors to look after their little “residents” and the latter will, in their turn, have the air to breathe with.

Thank you all who helped bring this little miracle into life.
