The story of little Ihor is a story of a fight for life that began far too soon.
The boy was born at just 22 weeks of pregnancy—tiny, helpless, and incredibly weak. Babies born this early have underdeveloped lungs, heart, nervous, and digestive systems. Every minute is a struggle for them, and every day is a true miracle. What’s more, Ihor was not born in a maternity hospital but right on the street, which posed an even greater threat to his life and health.
From the very first hours after birth, Ihor was admitted to the post-intensive care and neonatal nursing unit of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Hospital, where he spent a full three months. He then continued treatment in the hospital’s infant department for another month. Only after that was he discharged home under the supervision of a family doctor. But many more examinations and treatments lie ahead for Ihor.
Due to his extremely premature birth, Ihor could only be fed through a gastric tube until he was 3.5 months old. Now, he has learned to suck on his own, but he does so very slowly and with great effort.
Ihor receives the most care and love from his grandmother Kateryna and great-grandmother Iryna. His grandmother is his main pillar of support—she not only looks after him but also seeks ways to provide everything he needs. She believes that her little grandson will be able to live a full life. The most important thing is not to leave him alone in this difficult battle.
Together with you, we have already helped little Ihor by providing essential medicines, special nutrition, diapers, and a specialized medical mattress. However, the needs are ongoing—each month, approximately 10,000 UAH (nearly $240) is required to support his life. These funds cover medications, special nutrition, and hygiene products.
Let’s help little Ihor together!
