=====================================

Usually such bitter words as “Yes, your child could die at any moment” – result in tears, desperation, and great compassion for a little creature who hopefully looks into your eyes with only the question “Will you help me?”

Sophia’s illness has become a sorrow in the life of the Geykos family. The girl used to be a real fireball – she preferred running to walking, and whenever she played the whole house could hear her joy. It all started with the terrible bruises on her legs which did not disappear for quite a long time. All of a sudden an energetic girl began to watch TV, lying down and sleeping for most of the day. The girl’s mother became really concerned about it and took her little daughter to the hospital for a checkup. The doctors’ examination made everything clear – there was something seriously wrong. The girl was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a horrible illness which is hardly curable. As terrible as this diagnosis is, however, there’s still a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

The family acted immediately. The girl’s grandmother Svetlana took control of the situation by putting a mortgage on everything she owns. That money enabled Sophia to begin receiving treatments at the Belorussian clinic.

Sophia with her parents

The girl’s first chemotherapy session resulted in an intestine burn and left her unable to stand. The illness has turned a two-year old Sophia into a grown up girl, who doesn’t cry anymore, even in severe pain, she obediently undergoes her course of treatment. The clinical treatment needs to be continued but the complications are adding more and more expenses for the family. At every opportunity, the girl’s mother buys the corresponding foreign medicine since it helps Sophia to ease the treatment’s side effects and decreases the number of complications. But such medicine is costly, so the family has had to cut down on their living expenses as much as possible.

Sophia at the clinic

Sophia is to start her high dose chemotherapy very soon. The girl’s grandmother says that thanks to the therapeutic physical training and exercises Sophia can already sit and is even trying to walk on her own. As it stands today, the cost of continuing the treatments still requires $10 000! Although the girl’s parents have already paid $15.000 (they have taken out a mortgage on their property), more money for the treatment is still needed.

To give up means to.....

The members of the Happy Child Foundation and Sophia’s family are asking for your financial support for their lovely girl, and to give her a chance at life. Please give her a chance to live her life with her mom, dad and granny who are ready to do everything possible and impossible to save the life of their lovely girl.

Let God bless you for all your kind gestures and generosity for the sake of a child’s life!
