Our Foundation proceeds with its motivational “I Want to Be…” Project. This time the participants of the project were students of 9-11 grades of Zaporozhye orphanage No. 4. They had a chance to visit the printing shop of Keramist Publishing House. This is the biggest printing facility located in southern Ukraine.
The children enhanced their knowledge and got to know a lot of new professions. Production planners, engineers, mechanical technicians, print workers, packers, copying, duplicating, and slitting machine operators, as well as designers — all those people work in the shop. Our tour guide was Sergey Mikhaylovich, Safety Supervisor. He told the young visitors about the peculiarities of printing work. During their tour the children got a chance to see the operation of a printing machine as well as slitting and layout machines.
The printing workers showed how this equipment is used to print newspapers, books, and brochures. Having visited various departments of the facility, the orphanage children could see how big rolls of standard white paper, after passing through all those machines, turn into various printed materials. After the tour they listened to a lecture about modern typing methods and types, about working schedule and conditions, existing vacancies, manufactured products, and development prospects. Some historical background also proved to be interesting. Sergey Mikhaylovich compared the printing process of today to the same process 20-30 years ago.
And at the end, when our tour guide started talking about favorable working conditions, good salaries, and workers being provided with all social benefits, the children showed even bigger interest and asked a lot of questions.
We hope that after this tour the children have even bigger aspirations to get a proper education and find a good job. And who knows, maybe some of them will come back to this facility in a while. This time not as visitors, but as real professionals.
