Eva’s struggle for life began just after she was born. She spent the first days of her life in an intensive care unit. Her lungs were ventilated through her umbilical vein. At that time the girl’s mother Olga did not have any idea about what the diagnosis would turn out to be for her little daughter in the near future. Everything became clear when doctors diagnosed Eva with “portal hypertension with gastrointestinal tract varicosity”. According to the statistics around 84 % of babies who undergo that kind of lung ventilation experience the same complication.

The real problems started on the 26th of July 2011 when Eva had the first gastrointestinal bleeding. The girl was immediately taken to the fifth children’s hospital where she was monitored for three weeks. Olga hoped that her daughter’s case had to do with gastritis…

After Eva’s diagnosis was confirmed she came back home. But due to new bleeding the girl had to rush back to the hospital almost right away after her return home…

On the 9th of September 2011 Olga took her daughter for a medical consultation to the Okhmadet clinic. The professor made a surgery appointment for the 24th of October 2011. The cost of surgery and post-surgical rehabilitation is 24,000 hryvnyas or 2,977 US dollars. Olga is a single mother. Eva’s father doesn’t even pay child support. Thanks to Olga’s friends and acquaintances and financial support from “The Patriot of Zaporizhia” Charity Foundation and some deputies, the woman managed to collect 18,000 hryvnyas (2,232 US dollars). Olga has no idea where she could get the rest of the sum. Eva’s grandmother cannot help her granddaughter since she has to look after her disabled stepfather.

Five-year-old Eva is not afraid of surgery any more as she already experienced intensive care units twice in her little life. Her biggest dream is to come back to her kindergarten. The doctors promise that the surgery will improve Eva’s condition a lot. Although she won’t be allowed to run and will have to keep a strict diet but the bleeding will finally stop.

Eva’s life doesn’t require a huge sum of money and Olga is trying to overcome her problems alone. But even strong people need help. Support Olga and Eva, please!

The family lives in Zaporizhia.
