Now the girl can cherish a hope, however slight it is, that in future she would be able to walk. Because of the inherited talipes the girl is deprived of many childhood pleasures and she is bound to move around only in a wheelchair. Her legs are strongly deformed; partially this is caused by a rare genetic disease - Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, in which elasticity of the connective tissue is increased due to a defect in the synthesis of collagen. Patients with this syndrome suffer changes in the musculoskeletal system; they can have loose and unstable joints, abnormal mobility of fingers; suffer from kyphoscoliosis, spina bifida, flat feet and other painful deformities.

As Vlada grew, she suffered from other disease complications: one of her legs began to shrink and due to the difference in the length of the legs she began to develop spinal curvature. All this leads to a lot of pain. Symptomatic therapy is no use any more and it does not ease the pains. There was a moment when Vlada’s parents got depressed at the despair and uncertainty whether it was possible to resolve the problem at all because it required some radical measures.

As it turns out, there is a specialized clinic - the Turner Scientific and Research Institute for Children's Orthopedics in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. This institute is a leader in one of the most complicated areas of medicine – orthopedics. This scientific research and patient care institution is the first and the only one in Russia which addresses the issues of traumatological and orthopedic help to children with inherited and acquired diseases of musculoskeletal system such as congenital dislocation of the hip, scoliosis, foot deformities.

Even people from remote countries come to get qualified medical care in this clinic, so Vlada’s mother and father regained their spirits and decided to take their child to Saint Petersburg for examination. The institution charges only a nominal sum of 1200 Russian rubles for a patient reception (which equals approximately 38 US dollars), but the return tickets to the Northern Russia capital will cost a large amount of money: as Vlada is incapable of moving about independently, she has to be taken there by her mother and father. So, only the return train tickets for two adults and one child will consume about 5700 UAH. Besides, if the examination lasts several days, they will have to stay at the clinic hotel and this will additionally require about 248 US dollars.

Thanks to your kind donor Pavel this sum of money is already raised. But Vlada may need your further support. We will keep you up-to-date with Vlada’s news.
