Ukrainian orphan children cannot return home because of the bankruptcy of the Italian airline, the Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Dikusarov told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

"On August 17, we were addressed by one charity organization that annually sends Ukrainian children from orphanages to Italy on vacations. They said that this year 22 children and one adult went to Italy. They have to return to Ukraine on August 23 and on this day their visas are to expire. But the problem is that the Wind Jet air carrier went bankrupt and can neither carry children nor pay money back. The flight of the airline company should be carried out by the Livingston airlines", he said.

According to Dikusarov, the Foreign Ministry instructed the Ukrainian consulate in Milan to resolve this issue. "Currently, the negotiations are going on. We hope that this issue will be resolved," the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

He added that other airlines are also ready to carry children to Ukraine, requiring extra 170-200 euros per person. Dikusarov said that if they fail to resolve the issue without paying additional cost for the tickets, the Foreign Ministry, taking into account the humanitarian mission of the Ukrainian citizens in Italy, will pay the lacking amount.
