A Child Has a Family: Andrey M., – born in 2001

October 25, 2015, 12:00 3226 Author: Anna Popovich, translated by Andrei Vernon www.deti.zp.ua Andrey was adopted!

This autumn Andrey will turn 14 years old. Unfortunately because he is in an orphanage there will be no big birthday celebration with balloons, presents and a cake with candles.

This bright and cheery boy strives to give each person he meets a big hug. All he wants is a warm and sincere hug and it is apparent that he is not getting enough affection in the orphanage.

Andrey is attentive, careful and bright. He loves to create human figures from pieces of felt and very careful layers each piece of felt in order to create a perfect piece of art. His notebooks and drawings are very neat and orderly – he carefully traces and draws with colored pencils.

Andrey loves to be organized. For example, he will not leave the playroom until all the toys are put back in their place.

Andrey also loves to visit the sea. While on vacation Andrey loves to play soccer, volleyball, basketball and throw ball. How can you sit in one place when you have a ball in your hands and are surrounded by friends?

Andrey is also part of a dance group that has repeatedly been to city and regional competitions. He anxiously waits for each practice and deep down inside worries a little before each performance.

Andrey’s caretakers describe him as sympathetic, kind hearted and positive. He is always willing to help when asked and enjoys helping the younger children in the orphanage. Andrey helps them tie their shoes, feeds them and holds their hand on walks.

Andrey, like many children his age, dreams of a loving and caring family. Is that too much to ask for?

Andrey is a child with special needs.

Other children who dream of finding a family

If for some reason you are currently not able to adopt (for example, you are a student and do not have a family of your own yet) you are still able to help children at an orphanage with your financial support. Ways you can help include planning and participating in excursions and trips for children; visiting a child in an orphanage; or helping purchase developmental toys, books, construction sets, and sports equipment.
