GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE HOSPITAL

The Mykhailivka district is located in the southwest of the Zaporizhzhia region. The district covers an area of 1,070 km? and includes 2 urban-type settlements and 42 villages. A railway line Simferopol–Moscow and the Moscow–Simferopol highway pass through the district. There are three railway stations.

The population of the district is 29,787 people, including 15,798 urban residents (53.0%) and 13,989 rural residents (47.0%). Children aged 0–17 number 5,430, which is 18.2% of the total population. The adult female population is 13,427, adult male population is 10,930, women of childbearing age number 7,075, and pensioners number 7,777. An analysis of the demographic situation highlights a low birth rate. In 2012, 320 children were born in the district. A high overall mortality rate and negative natural population growth are observed.

Medical and preventive care in the district is provided by the Territorial Medical Association (TMA) of the Mykhailivka district. It includes: an inpatient hospital with 170 beds, an outpatient clinic with a capacity of 250 visits per shift, 16 family doctor outpatient clinics, and 4 feldsher-midwife stations.

HOSPITAL STRUCTURE

The TMA of the Mykhailivka district includes the following departments:

- Therapeutic department with 25 beds, located on the third floor of the main building;

- Infectious diseases department with 20 beds (5 pediatric and 15 adult) in a separate building, with 2 semi-isolation wards;

- Surgical department with 50 beds (20 surgical, 15 gynecological, and 15 trauma), located on the third floor of the main building. The operating unit is located separately on the second floor and is equipped with a sufficient range of equipment;

- Intensive care and resuscitation department with 6 beds, including 2 separate wards (one postoperative ward with 2 beds and one general pathology ward with 4 beds), a separate resuscitation hall, and an isolation ward. The department is located on the second floor of the main building;

- Neurology department with 30 beds, including 20 neurological beds and 10 pediatric beds. It is located on the first floor of the main building;

- Maternity department with 20 beds, located on the second floor. It has 2 delivery rooms and is connected by corridor to the ICU, operating unit, and central sterilization department. In 2012, more than 320 children were born in this department;

- Therapeutic department No. 2, located in the village of Plodorodne, with 25 beds.

All departments and family doctor outpatient clinics are provided with transport, ECG machines, physiotherapy equipment, telephone communication, heating, and running water. All facilities are connected by paved roads.

Since the district switched to family medicine principles in 2002, the entire population has gained access to medical care at their place of residence. In the evening and on holidays, emergency medical services provide assistance. All EMS vehicles are equipped with radio communication.

HOSPITAL NEEDS

Currently, the maternity department has the following needs:

- Bilitest (a device for express diagnostics of bilirubin levels in newborns without drawing venous blood) — cost in 2013: 11,000–13,000 UAH;

- Medical electric suction device for removing mucus and other fluids — cost from 1,100 UAH;

- Scales for weighing newborns;

- Nest for premature babies;

- Mattresses for phototherapy or a phototherapy lamp;

- Diapers for abandoned children or children from disadvantaged and low-income families.
