The spacious room is flooded with soft light. Along the walls, every one and a half meters, there are monitors and devices with buttons and lamps. The rhythmic chirping of electronics is heard from everywhere. At first glance, there is no one here. But in the center of each piece of equipment is a pink, palm-sized lump.
Nursing premature babies is a long and costly process. Every baby needs a whole laboratory of life: an incubator, a ventilator, a patient monitor and much more. The equipment creates conditions close to intrauterine conditions and helps the tiny body breathe and receive nutrition. To "connect" the baby to the devices, you need consumables.
The cuff helps to continuously monitor blood pressure and small heart function. The catheter allows the child to be given medications and intravenous food without additional trauma or pain for several weeks. The breathing circuit connects the baby to the ventilator.
This is not a complete list of required consumables. There are also filters, taps, extension cords, endotracheal tubes and more.
In the department of intensive care and resuscitation of newborns, about twenty babies are nursed every month. Each of them requires one or another combination of disposable consumables. And every time they have to be in the department in advance.
