A Child Needs a Family: Nina K., born in 1997

September 10, 2012, 10:35 7276 Author: Victoria Mochalova, translated by Anna Oliynyk www.deti.zp.ua Nina is 18 years old now

She must have been really nervous, as it was not easy for Nina to have a conversation with me. And posing for the camera was almost an impossible task. She was afraid to raise her eyes; it was hard to hear her voice when she answered our questions, turning red… Her teachers say that Nina is a very good and shy girl. And you can easily believe it!

It seemed she was reluctant to talk about herself. So I learned the most interesting facts by incident. And I am sure there are more of them to be learned. E.g., the girl is not only fond of music, especially the romantic songs of pop singers – Ani Lorak and Tina Karol are her favorite singers – but she sings herself, not only at school but also in a church choir.

Besides, Nina is fond of dancing and embroidery. She is also a diligent student and plans to become a kindergarten or a primary school teacher. Not she is getting herself ready to enter a college. Spending time with little ones and helping them is a great joy for her. So the smallest orphanage residents sincerely love their "tutor".

Family life is a mystery for Nina. She has been living in the orphanage for 11 years already, since she was very small. The girl has no memories of what her life was before that. She loves her orphanage as for her it is a sweet home. But still… “Living in a family is better”, she says. And it is hard to object it… This girl as well as other children wants to feel what it is like – to be a child, a child in a family with a Mom and a Dad. And she would also be happy to have smaller sisters or brothers – she would love to take care of them. And you can trust her to do it, as we were assured by the teachers of junior groups.

If you are interested in adopting Nina or other children, please read the memo to the potential adoptive parents, guardians, and foster parents; you can also contact Children’s Affairs' service of the Zaporozhia State Administration by telephone (061) 239-01-56. Request the Profile Number of Nina accordingly to the orphan list # 0056971.

Other children who dream of finding a family

If for some reason you are currently not able to adopt (for example, you are a student and do not have a family of your own yet) you are still able to help children at a boarding school (an orphanage) with your financial support. Ways you can help include: planning and participating in excursions and trips for children; visiting a child in an orphanage; or helping purchase developmental toys, books, construction sets, and sports equipment.
