Mykhailo was born with a developmental defect in his right hand and a heart condition. At the age of two, he underwent a complex surgery, followed by a year of rehabilitation. Only then did his fingers finally start to function. His heart condition is also currently under control. It seemed that all the difficulties were behind, but time passed, and Mykhailo still wasn’t speaking.
At three years old, another diagnosis appeared — a delay in psycho-speech development. Mykhailo began working with a speech therapist, and after a few months, he was already pronouncing his first words. However, everything changed in October 2022. During a massive shelling near Mykhailo’s home, he got very scared and stopped speaking completely. After this incident, the boy’s family moved from Zaporizhzhia to Kyiv.
For two years now, specialists have been trying to help Mykhailo regain his speech. He attends a speech therapy kindergarten and works with a psychologist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist. On the advice of his doctor, he visits the swimming pool, and recently he started practicing taekwondo. All these activities have finally brought long-awaited results: three months ago, Mykhailo started speaking again, and now he is already forming his first sentences!
Mykhailo’s family has approached us for help in covering the cost of another intensive rehabilitation course. We cannot stop at what has been achieved; it’s important to continue developing his speech. Therefore, we are opening a fundraiser to raise 30,000 UAH (approximately 740 USD) to help Mykhailo continue his progress. Please support the boy!
