Yesterday Darina Bigus celebrated her 8th birthday. Despite her life-threatening diagnosis and her feeling very weak, Darina was looking forward to at least a little birthday party. Her mom was trying her very best to make that cloudy day a bit brighter for her beloved daughter. But even on her daughter’s birthday, the woman could not help thinking about her main task to collect all the necessary documents for getting a visa and finally heading for bone marrow transplant surgery in Italy.
According to the Lifeline coordinator, the Italian clinic is ready to admit Darina in two-three weeks. It the meantime, the clinic is processing all the documents required for the Italian embassy in Ukraine.
By the time all the documents will be completed, Darina is to take one more supportive chemotherapy course in the Zaporizhia Hematology Department. In Italy the girl will be injected with a brand new medicine “Clofarabine” and then Darina will finally have her bone marrow transplant surgery. Since there is no time to wait for an unrelated donor, the Italian doctors decided to take Darina’s native sister as her donor after examining all the girl’s relatives.
9,000 euros (12,425 US dollars) have been raised but time is flying. Unfortunately, it’s not enough for getting a visa for three persons in Italy! We must additionally raise 11,000 euros (15,185 US dollars)! The specific of the acute myeloblastic leukemia is that the patient cannot afford waiting. Bone marrow transplantation should be performed as soon as it’s recommended! Darina urgently needs your financial support!
