This brave boy, Maksym, is 13 years old. For all these years, he has been battling spastic diplegia—a form of cerebral palsy that affects his legs. His condition was caused by premature birth—Maksym was born at just 29 weeks. He suffered from hypoxia, a brain hemorrhage, seizures, and spent over a month in intensive care.
In addition to CP, doctors also diagnosed him with hydrocephalus. Maksym has undergone skull trepanation and several surgeries to replace his shunting system, both in Ukraine and Turkey. He has also had multiple surgeries on his bones, tendons, and joints—all to give him a chance to walk.
Every day, Maksym takes anticonvulsant and vascular medications. He also has delayed speech and cognitive development, so his closest environment is his family, who do everything possible to support his growth. Maksym loves listening to his family read books to him, enjoys solving puzzles, tries to draw, and explores the world through learning cards.
Maksym requires ongoing rehabilitation — at least three times a year. The next course was scheduled for the end of March at the Kozyavkin International Rehabilitation Clinic. In addition, monthly funds are needed for medications prescribed by his neurologist.
Please help Maksym get a chance at a full life! Every contribution brings him closer to his dream of walking on his own.
