Underground kindergarten – a new reality for Zaporizhzhia (photos and video)

January 15, 2026, 3:50 67 Author: President of Happy Child foundation: Albert Pavlov www.deti.zp.ua The Happy Child Foundation financed the purchase of bunk beds for a kindergarten shelter in Zaporizhzhia

The kindergarten unit of Zaporizhzhia Gymnasium No. 65 received a fully renovated shelter, allowing children to study offline and continuously even during air raid alerts. Renovation works lasted about four months and were carried out using funds from the city budget. The shelter space is designed for more than 100 children and allows several groups to stay there simultaneously.

Since 2025, the institution has been operating in an 8-hour daily format. The shelter hosts children from four age groups — from early to senior preschool age. The premises are adapted for daily use: areas for study, play, rest and meals are equipped, ventilation, alternative power supply and lifts for wheelchair users are installed.

Happy Child Foundation joined the effort to equip the shelter. Thanks to donors, in November 2025 the foundation paid for the purchase of 32 four-tier folding beds totaling UAH 260,000, which made it possible to organize safe and comfortable rest for children during long stays in the shelter.

We remind you that thanks to your donations, since 2022 the foundation has been supporting children in frontline Zaporizhzhia: helping to equip shelters and centers for displaced persons, supporting children's hospitals and specific sick children, and organizing recreation for children in the Carpathians.

We would be grateful for your help and informational support:
