Ihor is a long-awaited and beloved child. He was born on time and with a normal weight, but vacuum assistance was needed during delivery, after which the boy was placed in intensive care. The first six months of his life were spent in hospitals.
Later, Ihor was diagnosed with a congenital brain malformation — Dandy–Walker syndrome. Then came additional diagnoses: spastic tetraparesis and epilepsy.
Now Ihor is 14 years old. He cannot speak, walk, or even eat on his own — the boy is completely dependent on his parents’ care. However, he is very emotional, loves cartoons, recognizes his loved ones, and sincerely rejoices when he sees familiar faces nearby.
In June of this year, another tragedy struck — fractures of both femurs. Due to being bedridden and having metabolic issues, his bones have become very fragile. The boy was put in a cast, where he has remained for several months — it is expected to be removed in mid-October. During this same period, thanks to your support, we were able to purchase the necessary medicines for Ihor for 16,397 UAH (approximately 390 USD).
Now doctors recommend installing a gastrostomy — a special device that will allow Ihor to be fed without pain or risk to his health. Because he cannot eat on his own, his body does not receive enough nutrients, which leads to constantly low levels of hemoglobin and protein.
We are opening a fundraiser for 10,000 UAH (approximately 240 USD) to purchase the gastrostomy costing about 4,000 UAH (approximately 95 USD), as well as medicines and diapers needed for daily care.
