We cannot stop the war. We cannot protect Zaporizhzhia from Russian bombs, missiles, and drones. We cannot make it possible for every child to move to a safer region. But we can make schools and kindergartens safer and more comfortable for the children who remain.
That is exactly what we have been doing. Over the past two years, together with you, we have helped several schools in Zaporizhzhia. We have renovated bomb shelters, installed proper partitions between classrooms, improved ventilation and lighting, purchased furniture, and delivered laptops.
Despite billions of hryvnias being invested in underground schools, the problem remains. These facilities take a long time to build, and there still will not be enough space for every child. Meanwhile, thousands of schoolchildren and preschoolers in Zaporizhzhia continue to spend every school day in makeshift basement shelters with too little light and fresh air. Their classrooms are separated only by curtains instead of walls, making it difficult to hear their own teacher over the noise from neighboring classes. That is why it is so important to improve the shelters that are already in use and serving children every day.

The school has received a 33 kW generator but lacks the resources to connect it and prepare a proper installation site. Another urgent need is to convert the former kitchen into an additional classroom.
We have already repaired the rainwater drainage system. The next step is to restore three classrooms damaged by moisture by leveling the floors, removing mold, and repainting the walls.

The school needs four-tier bunk beds to open an additional preschool group. It also needs proper classroom partitions with doors. At the moment, the learning spaces are separated only by curtains, making it difficult for students to concentrate, and one classroom cannot be used at all.
The total cost of these three projects exceeds UAH 500,000 (about $12,000 USD), and the final amount may increase as the work progresses. Please support our campaign. It means fresh air in the shelter, the ability to hear their teacher, a safe space for preschoolers, and the chance—even if only for a few hours—to forget that a war is raging outside.
