Stork who lost his way (Russian tale for adopted children)

December 18, 2006, 0:00 2751 Author: Oksana (adoptive mother from Russia) Translated to English by Yulia Mirnaya for www.deti.zp.ua www.deti.zp.ua

Storks are responsible for bringing children to their mummies and daddies. Real mummies and daddies are very happy when they see a stork flying towards them, bringing, in his long beak, their much awaited little baby. But sometimes storks get lost on their way. Sometimes they deliver children to the wrong addresses. When that happens, storks deliver babies to special houses where children's real parents must find them.

On a wonderful autumn day, the most beautiful stork picked up the best Baby in the world to deliver him to his Mummy and Daddy. But as the stork was flying, a very strong wind forced him to drop a peace of paper with the address of the Baby's parents. At the same time, Mummy and Daddy started to get worried that their Baby was lost. Everyday they would stare at the sky hoping to see the stork they were so eagerly waiting for. But the stork, because he lost the address of the Baby's parent, brought him instead to a special house where children who do not have parents live.

In the house, everyday children look at the door with anticipation- maybe today will be the day when their parents come.

Of course the house was full of women who took care of the children, but nobody could substitute a mummy. Kind women were giving kids some tasty treats. But how could someone substitute a meal a mummy prepares? Women played games with children. But no game is interesting without a mummy or daddy playing. There were beautiful beds in the house's bedrooms. But it is not comfortable to sleep even in the most beautiful bed if mummy is not there to tack you in and daddy does not kiss you goodnight.

So, the Baby was waiting for his Mummy and Daddy to find him.

One day, close to the New Year's Eve, all children in the house were asking Santa Clause to make their wishes come true. One boy wanted a big toy car, whilst a little girl wanted a beautiful doll. But the Baby's only wish was for his parents to finally find him.

Everyone knows that Santa is very kind and generous. So he wrote to the Baby's parents a letter describing how lonely their baby was without them. As soon as the Baby's parents received the letter, they went to the house. The came into the room with a lot of children, but they immediately recognised their little son. The Baby's heart felt that his true Mummy and Daddy came to collect him. All together they went home. From that day on they were together forever. Now, they were a real family.

This fairytale was written by Oksana for her two-year old son Misha. Now Misha is five and this tale has been told by many, many mummies and daddies. They tell it to their children whose storks also lost their way at first. As a result, a new tradition has been born- to celebrate Stork's Day. This day is a child's second birthday. When s/he became a member of a real family.
