We express our gratitude to our dear assistants! Artem has successfully completed the active stage of treatment. In the spring he will have to go for a control examination.

=====================================

Artem is a very bright and cheerful boy. Since birth he has taken interest in everything! By his first year, Artem was effectively communicating a wide range of emotions and needs. A budding polyglot, he learned more than ten English words. Artem was always very happy to be an assistant to his parents with chores and cooking.

The family was proud of their little boy and a storybook life. But two weeks before Artem’s fourth birthday, doctors found a terrible disease: brain cancer. The doctors suggested to place a brain shunt to ease the pain, thinking that the boy had “at most 1.5 months to live”.

Fortunately, the parents held onto hope and didn’t give up. They wrote to many foreign clinics and foundations. Luckily, Konstantin Khabenskiy's Charity Fund responded from Moscow.

Artem went to Russia for surgery to remove the tumor and half of his cerebellar tentorium which was penetrated by the tumor. A month after the surgery, an MRI revealed metastases throughout his spinal column. The battle for his life continues.

Artem is clearly stronger than the disease! He is somewhat recovered. The doctors didn’t believe their eyes. The boy managed to relearn how to talk, crawl, and walk! Looking at recent photos, it is hard to believe what he’s been through. Did it really happened to him?! In one year of life, he had nine rounds of high-dosage of chemotherapy and two months of radiation treatments.

Now Artem is back in Ukraine receiving ongoing maintenance therapy. Thank God, the chemo is being provided mainly through government procurements. But he needs a new MRI every 3 months costing 5260 UAH ($200 USD) so that doctors can regulate medications to control the disease.

The parents’ savings are depleted by medical costs. The parents are trusting in kind people’s help and that the disease will go into complete remission.
