=====================================

What could be better and more tenderly delightful for any woman than to carry a new life under her heart, to feel the first kicking of her beloved and wanted child and to look forward to this great day when she will be able finally to take her newborn baby into her arms! It’s probably the greatest joy ever. And Rita was blessed with this sweet bundle of joy. The young lady and her husband were looking forward to the birth of their daughter. They were carefully choosing the toys and clothes that would be worthy of their little princess.

Their little princess turned out to be rather wayward though and didn’t want to stay in her mommy’s belly any more. Perhaps the girl just could not wait to see this world. Little Katya was born prematurely on 17th of September 2011. She came into this world at just 28 weeks, only weighting 1,140 grams (2.508 pounds).

Premature babies have poorly developed internal organs, which means they do not function properly. The doctors made concerted efforts to save little Katya. And, thanks to God, this lovely baby managed to survive. However, she, like all prematurely born babies, has serious vision problems. The light, as well as a high dose of oxygen in the incubator, had badly affected her eyesight. Some premature babies have just mild vision problems that can be easily corrected by laser therapy. But some babies have complicated cases that are difficult to cure. Unfortunately, Katya belongs to this unlucky group of babies. She cannot see the world she longed to see so much.

The situation is, however, not totally hopeless. Little Katya has a good chance of getting back at least a small percentage of her vision if she undergoes surgery. Even this “small” percentage of vision is very significant for a child who lives in total darkness. If the surgery goes well, Katya will be able to see the shapes of objects around her which is much better than seeing nothing, and this greatly improves her prospects of an independent life. The ability to see at least something means a lot for someone who is blind. And what’s more, even a little vision sets you free from being a social outcast.

This complicated surgery is planted to take place in the Russian Eye Microsurgery Clinic (Kaluga). The surgery costs 55,000 Russian rubles or around 3,732 US dollars. Katya’s parents have already run out of money while struggling for the life of their precious daughter.

We’re appealing to you, our dear readers and donors to support this lovely little princess Katya. Let’s give her a chance to see her parents’ faces. Let’s set her free from her darkness…
