A Child Needs a Family: Mariya К., born in 1997

May 31, 2012, 12:50 6120 Author: Victoria Mochalova, translated by Iryna Koval www.deti.zp.ua Mariya is 18 years old now

At first Masha (Mariya) resembled a self-contained bear-cub to me– she sat separately in the bus, switched on her player and was looking at the window and listening to music all the way long, while other girls were communicating loudly. But it turned out that I was wrong. Masha proved to be a lively and communicative, she just liked music. She gave me to listen. I indeed understand, that it is possible to dance to such rhythm, but to listen… So, different generations– different tastes, the girl doesn’t impose them to anybody.

Also Masha, like many other teenagers, thought up that it is cool to be rough and gloomy, she even said that she never smiled. But – believe to an outside observer – it is nothing of the kind. What I saw, was a modest and shy girl, charming, looking for her own way of self-expression. Finally she confessed, that everybody said that the smile suits her very much. And it was worth seeing how she romped with little Lera. She communicated with her as equals, and at the same time, protectively, gently and very patiently. Lera liked Masha very much. If I haven’t seen it with my own eyes, I would never believe that Masha could communicate with kids in such an easy and wise way.

The girl is engaged in the vocal lessons, she sings in the school chorus. Earlier she even attended dancing. Indeed Masha and her close friend-namesake told me, that their dances were only folk ones, but they are interested in modern sports dancing. That’s why they study hip-hop, techno on their own.

Masha with her friend

Mariya is also engaged in arts. Now she is involved in batik technics. Recently her works together with the works of other group members from their boarding school were exhibited at the Regional scientific library. And Masha has got new creative ideas!

Once she went abroad together with other children, but didn’t take the fancy of the potential foster parents. And foreigners are not very eager to invite the children of her age. Masha is strongly and sincerely interested in a family. Look closely at her, please.

If you are interested in adopting Mariya, please read the memo to the potential adoptive parents, guardians, and foster parents; you can also contact Children’s Affairs' service of the Zaporozhia State Administration by telephone (061) 239-01-56. Request the Profile Number of Mariya accordingly to the orphan list # 0057645.

Other children who dream of finding a family

If for some reason you are currently not able to adopt (for example, you are a student and do not have a family of your own yet) you are still able to help children at a boarding school (an orphanage) with your financial support. Ways you can help include: planning and participating in excursions and trips for children; visiting a child in an orphanage; or helping purchase developmental toys, books, construction sets, and sports equipment.
